Summary

As a chemical company or any other company transporting hazardous materials, it’s essential to have safe and efficient methods for storage and transportation of products. The right packaging materials and handling equipment can make all the difference in maintaining the integrity of the product and preventing any contamination or damage during the supply chain process. That’s why at Noah Chemicals, we offer industry leading proficiency in hazardous material handling, custom packaging, safety regulations, and material handling services. Our solutions cater to individual customer requirements, ensuring that chemical processes are safe, efficient, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. In this case study, we explore Noah Chemicals’ capabilities and expertise, and outline exactly why these logistical considerations are so important.

Background

The safe packaging and handling of hazardous materials is crucial across many industries. Companies like Noah Chemicals have developed expertise in custom packaging solutions that adhere to regulations and ensure safe transportation and handling.

Packaging materials often include metal drums, fiber drums, pails, and bags. The packaging process may involve several layers of protection, like placing chemicals in a container within a barrier bag, in a box, and then in another barrier bag inside an outer box. These boxes may be taped with reinforced tape, and bags can have different thicknesses, measured in mils (1 mil = 1/1000 inch).

Noah Chemicals is certified with IATA (by plane), DOT (by land), and IMDG (ocean or over water) training, ensuring safety across different modes of transport. We handle a variety of chemicals, such as toxic, flammable, air sensitive, corrosive, dangerous when wet, oxidizers, flammable solids, and spontaneously combustible materials.

We are also proud to be ISO 9001:2015, DQS certified. Our certification demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality products and services to our customers and ensures that we have a robust QMS in place to meet our customers’ needs and continuously improve our processes.

UN rated means that our chemical packaging solutions meet the stringent safety standards set by the United Nations (UN) for the safe transportation of hazardous materials, including chemicals. Specialized packaging solutions, such as poison packs and UN rated drums, are used for specific hazards, with UN numbers assigned to each hazard. Companies like Noah Chemicals also vet our customers to ensure responsible distribution of hazardous materials.

In addition to custom packaging, Noah Chemicals offers material handling services like dry bulk blending, solid-to-solution, and particle size analysis. Utilizing advanced technology like the Microtrac S-3500 laser diffraction analyzer, we can provide precise particle size distribution. We can perform particle size reduction using methods of screening and milling.

Noah Chemicals’ expertise in custom research, development, and large-scale production of chemicals highlights our commitment to being a responsible manufacturer. Our capabilities in various aspects of material handling, including milling, screening, and blending, demonstrate our ability to provide tailored solutions for our customers’ needs.

Evaluation

The effective packaging and material handling of hazardous materials are essential for ensuring safety across many modern-day industries. Companies like Noah Chemicals have demonstrated our capabilities and expertise in this field, utilizing our multiple certifications to provide reliable solutions.

Methodology

Noah Chemicals’ custom packaging is tailored according to the hazards, compatibility, and unit sizes required by individual customers. We use a range of materials, including metal drums, fiber drums, pails, and bags. Certified with IATA, DOT, and IMDG training, we maintain compliance with all regulations.

Research

Noah Chemicals and similar companies develop our own safety data sheets (SDS) and use specialized cutting-edge equipment for material handling, including double cone blenders, ribbon blenders, delumpers, comminuting mills (Fitz Mill), screeners/separators (Sweco machines), mills, and ovens in various sizes and materials of construction. This ensures that the materials are handled and packaged appropriately.

Formulation

Custom research and development, R&D to pilot scale production, and in-house analytical capabilities enable Noah Chemicals to create chemicals tailored to our clients’ needs. We can break large “chunks” into granules or make solutions from solid substances, depending on the customer’s needs.

Manufacturing

Noah Chemicals offers material handling services such as blending, dry, bulk, solid-to-solution, and custom packaging. We have the necessary equipment like mills, screeners, and blenders, and ovens in various sizes and materials of construction to ensure the safe processing of hazardous materials.

A Customer Success Story

A Noah Chemicals customer needed trisodium phosphate (TSP) processed into a specific granular powder. Noah Chemicals faced the challenges of handling TSP, which quickly agglomerates and forms solid blocks, by processing over 20 metric tons of raw TSP to achieve the required specification, utilizing our delumping capabilities, granulation, and classification processes. In just four weeks, we achieved a 75% yield of the raw material, even with tight particle size distribution restrictions.

Noah Chemicals provides a comprehensive approach to packaging and materials handling, ensuring the safe and efficient management of hazardous materials across various industries.

Conclusion

Noah Chemicals’ expertise in hazardous material handling, custom packaging, and material handling services makes us a reliable and trustworthy partner for chemical companies. Our commitment to safety, flexibility, and customer-focused solutions ensures that we meet and exceed the unique requirements of each client.
